Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French entrecôte.
Etymology: < French entrecôte (1746), lit. ‘between rib’ < entre between (see enter- prefix) + côte rib (see coast n.). O.E.D. Suppl. (1972) gives only the non-naturalized pronunciation (aṅtrəkōt) /ɑ̃trəkoːt/.
A beef steak cut from between the ribs. Sometimes more fully entrecôte steak.
