Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin anabaptizare.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin anabaptizare (1556 or earlier) < Byzantine Greek ἀναβαπτίζειν to rebaptize < ancient Greek ἀνά- ana- prefix + Hellenistic Greek βαπτίζειν baptize v. Compare earlier rebaptize v.Compare Dutch wederdopen (1536 as †weerdoepen), German wiedertaufen (1525 as †widertouffen).
Now rare.
