1. A device used to saturate a current of gas or steam with liquid, consisting of a hollow or pocket from which a passing current of gas or steam draws liquid. Obsolete. rare.

2. Chemistry. In distillation: a substance added to an azeotropic mixture to form a new azeotrope with one or more of the components, which can then be separated by distillation.
