Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin ēvert- , ēvertere , -ed suffix1; evert v., -ed suffix1.
Etymology: Originally < classical Latin ēvert-, past participial stem of ēvertere evert v. + -ed suffix1. In later use re-formed < evert v. + -ed suffix1.
1. Turned upside down, upset. Also: disordered, in disarray. Obsolete.
