Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: angle n.1, an element of uncertain origin.
Etymology: < angle n.1 + a second element of uncertain identity (perhaps an unattested Old English noun *twæcca , *twicce (compare twatchel n.), perhaps related to the verb twiccian twick v.).In Old English attested both as a weak masculine (angeltwicca , angeltwæcca ) and as a weak feminine (angeltwicce ). With the β. forms compare touchangle n.
Now rare (English regional (south-western) and Welsh English in later use).
A worm used as bait in fishing; an earthworm.
