Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements. Etymons: epi- prefix, Greek κορμός , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < epi- prefix + ancient Greek κορμός trunk of a tree (with the branches lopped off) (see corm n.2) + -ic suffix.
Chiefly Forestry.
Of a branch or shoot: growing from a dormant bud on the trunk or a large branch of a tree; designating such growth or such a bud.
