单词 enfundying
释义

enfundyingn.

Forms: pre-1700 enfundeyng.
Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French, combined with an English element. Etymons: French enfondre , -ing suffix1.
Etymology: Apparently < Anglo-Norman enfoundre, enfundre, Anglo-Norman and Middle French enfondre to be benumbed with cold (see afound v.) + -ing suffix1, although the medial -y- is difficult to account for (compare slightly earlier fundying n.). K. Bitterling Der Wortschatz von Barbours Bruce (1970) 151–2 has alternatively interpreted the sense in quot. 1489 as ‘leprosy’; however, the context explicitly links the malaise with cold.
Scottish. Obsolete. rare.
A chilling or numbing with cold; = fundying n.
