Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French employé.
Etymology: < French employé (1723), use as noun of the past participle of employer employ v. Compare earlier employed adj. N.E.D. (1891) gives the pronunciation as (aṅplwaye) /ɑ̃plwaje/.
Now rare.
A person who is employed, an employee.Apparently applied primarily to workers in non-manual, esp. clerical, jobs. Now generally superseded by employee n.1 1.
