Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Emplektit.

Etymology: < German Emplektit (A. Kenngott 1855, in Uebersicht der Resultate mineralogischer Forschungen 1853 125; < Hellenistic Greek ἔμπλεκτος inwoven (see emplecton n.) + German -it -ite suffix¹), with remodelling of the ending after -ite suffix¹; so called with allusion to the intimate association of this mineral with quartz at the type locality.

A rare mineral consisting of a sulphide of bismuth and copper, typically occurring as grey or silver-white fibres or needles.Chemical formula: CuBiS₂. Crystal system: orthorhombic.

1958 Jrnl. Geol. (Chicago) 66 524/1 Emplectite..is isostructural with wolfsbergite.

2006 Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta 27 4218/1 Primary copper ores include chalcopyrite, fahlore (tennantite–tetrahedrite) and emplectite, which all contain essentially Cu(I).
