Forms: Also Middle English aȝt-sum.
Etymology: formed on the analogy of Old English phrases like syxa sum one of six, where the numeral is in genitive plural. See eight adj. and n. and some adj.1, and compare Scots twasome , threesome ; -some suffix2.
Now chiefly Scottish.
Eight together. eightsome-reel n. [after foursome] a kind of dance in which eight persons take part. Also n. = an eightsome reel.
