Etymology: < post-classical Latin Amphictyonicus (1520 or earlier) < ancient Greek Ἀμϕικτυονικός (also Ἀμϕικτιονικός ) belonging to the Amphictyons or their League < Ἀμϕικτύονες (see Amphictyon n.) + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare earlier Amphictyonian adj.Compare earlier (rare) Amphyctyonical , in the same sense ( < post-classical Latin Amphictyonicus + -al suffix¹):1598 I. D. tr. L.
