单词 electrometer
释义

electrometern.

Brit. /ᵻˌlɛkˈtrɒmᵻtə/, U.S. /əˌlɛkˈtrɑmədər/, /iˌlɛkˈtrɑmədər/
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; probably modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: electro- comb. form, -meter comb. form2.
Etymology: < electro- comb. form + -meter comb. form2, probably after French électromètre (1746, with reference to a hypothetical instrument not yet in existence; then 1749 with reference the instrument invented by Le Roy and d'Arcy in 1748).
Originally: an instrument for ascertaining the presence of an electric charge on an object, and giving an indication of its magnitude; = electroscope n. Later also: any instrument for measuring electrostatic potential difference or electric charge. Also figurative (rare).binant, quadrant, torsion electrometer: see the first element.
