Etymology: < Italian amarone (1953 or earlier) < amaro bitter (see amaro n.) + -one , augmentative suffix (compare -oon suffix).
A rich, full-bodied, dry red wine made from grapes dried after picking in the Valpolicella region of north-eastern Italy.A proprietary name in the United States.
