Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese edamame.
Etymology: < Japanese edamame green soybean in the pod (1638 or earlier) < eda branch + mame bean.
Usually with plural agreement. In Japanese cookery: fresh green soybeans, typically boiled or steamed and served in their pods, seasoned with salt, as an appetizer or snack.
