Etymology: < electronic adj.: see -ic suffix 2. Compare German Elektronik (1905 or earlier).
1. With singular agreement. Originally: the branch of physics concerned with the behaviour of electrons. Later more widely: the study of phenomena associated with the flow of electrons and the practical application of such phenomena (first in thermionic valves, later also in other devices such as X-ray tubes, transistors, and electric circuits) .molecular, quantum electronics: see the first element.
