单词 drumsler
释义

drumslern.

Forms:

α. 1500s drumslaer, 1500s drumslare, 1500s drumsleyer.

β. 1500s dromseler, 1500s dromsler, 1500s drumsler.

γ. 1500s drumslager.

Origin: Probably a borrowing from Dutch. Etymons: Dutch tromslager; Dutch trommelslager.
Etymology: Probably partly (i) < Dutch (now rare) tromslager (1507), and partly (ii) (with reduction of the first element, perhaps resulting from mishearing) < Dutch trommelslager (1517 as †trommelslagher ), both in sense ‘drummer’, respectively < trom and trommel (for both, see drum n.1) + slager person who beats something (see slayer n.1). The α. forms show remodelling after slayer n.1 (compare forms at that entry), while the β. forms probably reflect phonetic reduction (and perhaps also association of the ending with -er suffix1). Compare earlier drumslade n. and later drummer n.Compare Old Frisian tromslēker , trommeslēker , tromslagere , Middle Low German trummensleger (1567 or earlier), early modern German trummelschlager (a1528 in Dürer's diary of a journey to the Low Countries), tromelschlaher (1567 in the passage translated in quot. 1585), drommenschläger (1594), trommenschläger (1602), tromschläger (1616), German Trommelschläger (1607), Old Swedish trumslaghare (Swedish trumslagare ), Danish trommeslager (1536 as †thrumslaar , 1592 as †tromslager ). With the variation of the initial plosive in English and the other Germanic languages, compare discussion at drum n.1
Obsolete.
= drummer n. 1b.
