Etymology: < post-classical Latin dulcor sweetness of taste (Vulgate; early 3rd cent. in Tertullian), sweetness of speech, pleasantness (4th or 5th cent. in Jerome) < classical Latin dulcis sweet (see dulce adj.) + -or -or suffix. Compare slightly earlier douceur n. and the Romance parallels cited at that entry.With the form doulcure compare -ure suffix¹.
