Etymology: Dutch duiker /ˈdœykər/ < Middle Dutch dûker = German taucher ducker or diver: see ducker n.1 N.E.D. (1897) gives the pronunciation as (dəi·kəɹ) /ˈdaɪkə(r)/.
A small South African antelope, Cephalopus mergens, so called from its habit of plunging through the bushes when pursued.
