单词 | dyke |
释义 | dyken. colloquial (originally U.S.). Chiefly derogatory and offensive. A lesbian. Also (now less commonly): any woman whose appearance is regarded as masculine (often used with the implication that she is a lesbian).Although originally chiefly derogatory (and still often considered offensive, esp. when used by heterosexuals), since the 1970s dyke has increasingly been used as a neutral or positive term for a lesbian. It has often carried some implication of a woman whose appearance, behaviour, or identity is regarded as traditionally or stereotypically masculine, although more recently this implication has sometimes become reduced or absent. The word remains derogatory and offensive when used to refer simply to appearance. Cf. bull dyke n.
