Origin: A borrowing from Zulu. Etymon: Zulu amaBhunu.
Etymology: < Zulu amaBhunu Afrikaners collectively < ama- , plural class prefix denoting people + -bhunu relating to Afrikaners and their culture and language ( < South African Dutch boer Boer n.). Compare the similarly-formed Xhosa amaBhulu (recorded in an English context in 1852).The singular form in Zulu is iBhunu.
South African slang (derogatory).
With plural agreement. Among speakers of the Nguni languages: Afrikaners collectively.
