Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Drawcansir.
Etymology: < the name of Drawcansir, a character in The Rehearsal, a play by George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham (1672).Formed as a parody on Almanzor in Dryden's Conquest of Granada, probably intended to suggest drawing a can of liquor (see the references to his drinking capacity in Rehearsal iv. i. 37).
Now rare.
A person likened to the character Drawcansir in being boastful, swaggering, or indiscriminately violent or aggressive.In the play The Rehearsal by George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham (1672), Drawcansir enters a battle in the final scene and kills all the combatants on both sides.
