单词 dork
释义

dorkn.

Brit. /dɔːk/, U.S. /dɔrk/
Forms: 1900s dorque, 1900s– dork.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: dick n.1
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps a variant or alteration of dick n.1 (compare sense 4a at that entry). Compare U.S. slang dirk in similar use (see quot. 1964 at sense 1; also used in sense 2); this seems unlikely to be connected with dirk n. Significantly earlier currency in sense 2a is perhaps suggested by use of Louie the Dorque as the nickname of a U.S. Army soldier, although the sense intended is unclear:1945 Stanford Daily (Stanford Univ., Calif.) 9 Feb. 4/5 Louie the Dorque nervously dealt the pasteboards... The situation wasn't helped when a pair of aces slipped from the Dorque's sleeve and rattled noisily on the board. For possible indirect evidence of earlier currency, see also etymological note at dork v.

dorkv.

Brit. /dɔːk/, U.S. /dɔrk/
Origin: Apparently formed within English, by conversion. Etymon: dork n.
Etymology: Apparently < dork n.The following apparently isolated instance of dorked , apparently in the sense ‘exhausted’, occurs considerably earlier than this word and also antedates dork n. 1956 M. Hargrove Girl he left Behind iv. 77 One of the men fell heavily upon his bunk. ‘Wake the town and tell the people,’ he said. ‘I am dorked. Bugged. Bushed. Beat.’It is unclear whether this evidence implies earlier currency of this word in a different sense (for possible semantic parallels compare e.g. shagged adj.2, fucked adj. 2), or whether it shows a different word.
