Etymology: < German Alumocalcit ( A. Breithaupt Vollständige Charakteristik des Mineral-Syst. (ed. 3, 1832) 97; < alum- (in †Alumina alumina n.) + -o- -o- connective + classical Latin calc- , calx lime (see calx n.) + German -it -ite suffix¹), with remodelling of the ending after words in -ite suffix¹. Compare alumo- comb. form. Compare earlier siderocalcite n. at sidero- comb. form¹ 1 and later calcite n.

Mineralogy. Now rare.

A variety of opal containing lime and alumina as impurities.
