Etymology: < French allophanate (1846 in allophanate de baryte ) < allophan- (in allophanique allophanic adj.¹) + -ate -ate suffix¹. Compare allophanic adj.¹French allophanate de baryte is after German allophansaurer Baryt (J. Liebig & F. Wöhler 1846, in Ann. der Chem. 59 293). Compare German Allophanat (1849 or earlier), which was not used by Liebig and Wöhler in their 1846 paper.
