A unit of measurement of the total amount of a trace gas in the atmosphere above a point on the earth's surface, one Dobson unit being equivalent to a layer of pure gas 10 µm thick at a temperature of 0°C and a pressure of one standard atmosphere.Dobson units are used chiefly to measure the level of atmospheric ozone.
