Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymons: allodge v., -ment suffix.
Etymology: < allodge v. + -ment suffix, after Italian allogiamento fact of being lodged in a particular place, also (in non-military contexts) lodgings (end of the 14th cent.), encampment (a1519). Compare Middle French allogement (1580), Old Occitan alotjamen encampment. Compare lodgement n.In β. forms directly < Italian allogiamento.
Obsolete.
1. Chiefly Military. A place in which someone or something is lodged or accommodated; an encampment. Also in plural: lodgings.
