Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: dog n.1, fall n.2
Etymology: < dog n.1 + fall n.2; the underlying metaphor is unclear, perhaps simply a ‘bad’ or ‘inferior’ fall, since it does not result in victory for either wrestler.
Wrestling.
A fall in which both wrestlers touch the ground together; a tie or stalemate. Also in extended use.
