单词 allod
释义

allodn.

Brit. /ˈalɒd/, U.S. /ˈælɑd/
Forms: 1800s– allod, 1800s– alod.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin allodium; Latin alodis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin alodium, allodium or its etymon alodis, alodus (see allodium n.), with omission of the ending. Compare earlier allodium n. and see discussion at that entry, and also earlier allody n.It is uncertain whether the following example, from a Latin-vernacular glossary, is to be interpreted as showing an antedating of the English word or an otherwise unattested Anglo-Norman word (although, as the section of the glossary in which it appears is glossed predominantly with Anglo-Norman words, the latter is more likely):c1200 ( Latin-Vernacular Gloss. (Bodl. 730) in Eng. Stud. (1981) 62 203/2 Hoc predium, .i. alod. Compare also earlier (rare) frank-allod land that is exempt from all manorial obligations:1686 Bp. G. Burnet Some Lett. conc. Switzerland i. 60 There are some Lands that are Frank-alod, which lie not under this tax.2003 D. J. Smith & H. Buffery tr. Bk. Deeds James I of Aragon i. 65 (footnote) On 23 October, Aurembiaix gave James the county of Urgell as his own frank allod, the main conditions being that she would hold the county during her lifetime and that James would promise to recover the remaining castles after he had returned from the attack on Majorca. This apparently shows a borrowing < post-classical Latin francalodium (1543 or earlier) or its etymon francum alodium, francum allodium (10th cent.; 14th cent. in a British source; < post-classical Latin francum , neuter of francus frank adj.2 + alodium , allodium allodium n.). Compare (all now hist.) French franc-alleu (14th cent. in Middle French; 1258 in Old French as franc aluef), Catalan franch alou (1546 or earlier; a1210 or earlier as †franch alod; 1142 as †alod franc), Spanish francalodio, franco alodio (both 1551 or earlier), Italian (now hist.) franco allodio (1681 or earlier), and also German Frankallod (1786 or earlier).
