Etymology: < post-classical Latin allocatur ‘it is allowed’, 3rd person singular present passive indicative of allocare (see allocate v.).
Law.
An instruction given by a person in authority that a writ or process is to be allowed; (in later use) spec. a certificate allowing costs at the conclusion of an action.The certificate allowing costs was replaced in English law in 1998 by the Final Costs Certificate.
