Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with another borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek δολιχός , Greek πέλλα , -ic suffix.

Etymology: < ancient Greek δολιχός long (see Dolichos n.) + πέλλα bowl (see pelike n.; taken in sense ‘pelvis’ by analogy with the sense development of classical Latin pēlvis pelvis n., although the two words are probably not cognate) + -ic suffix.

Chiefly Physical Anthropology.

Of a human pelvis: having the anteroposterior diameter greater than the transverse diameter; = anthropoid adj. 3.
