Etymology: < Amra (in El-Amra (Arabic al-ʿAmra), the name of an archaeological site in Upper Egypt, situated between the cities of Asyut and Aswan, where a predynastic cemetery was excavated in 1900–1) + -ian suffix, with insertion of -t- (for euphony).With the β. forms compare -ean suffix.

Petrie; of or relating to this period.Petrie's divisions, Amratian, Gerzean, Semainean, approximately correspond to what is now usually known as Naqada I, Naqada II, and Naqada III (see Naqada n. 2).
