U.S. don't ask, don't tell, (don't pursue) and variants: (designating) a policy on homosexuality adopted by the U.S. military from 1994–2011, under which personnel were not asked about their sexual orientation and gays and lesbians were allowed to serve provided they did not openly reveal their sexuality. Also in extended use.
