Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek -κεϕαλος , -ism suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek -κεϕαλος (see -cephalous comb. form) + -ism suffix. Compare -cephaly comb. form (formations in which are now more common).Formations are found from the second half of the 19th cent., e.g. microcephalism n., dolichocephalism n. at dolichocephalic adj. Derivatives, brachycephalism n. at brachycephalic adj. Derivatives. Compare German -cephalismus (1866 in Dolichocephalismus).
