Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: disco- comb. form, -phore comb. form.
Etymology: < disco- comb. form + -phore comb. form, after either scientific Latin Discophora or Discophorae (for both, see Discophoran n. and adj.). Compare French discophore (1831 in this sense).
Zoology. Now rare.
A cnidarian of the (former) subclass Discophora (see Discophoran n.); a jellyfish.
