Compare Old Occitan descofitura (end of the 12th or early 13th cent.), Catalan †desconfitura (15th cent.), Spanish †desconfitura (late 14th cent.; probably < Catalan), and also ( < French) post-classical Latin disconfectura , disconfitura (frequently from 13th cent. in British sources), Middle High German schumpfentiure .
