Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: Latin Discoglossus , -oid suffix.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Discoglossus, genus name (see discoglossid adj. and n.) + -oid suffix, after scientific Latin Discoglossoidea, superfamily name (T. Gill 1884, in Ann. Rep. Board Regents Smithsonian Inst. 1882 621; compare quot. 1884 at discoglossid n.).
