Etymology: Probably < ἄμβρο- (in ancient Greek ἄμβροτος immortal: see ambrosia n.; compare quot. 1854) + type n., although compare Ambro- (in the name of James Ambrose Cutting (1814–67), U.S. photographer, who in 1854 was granted three U.S. patents relating to the process).Compare Cutting's following comment:1854 J.
