Compare earlier exclusion n.In quot. 1668 apparently influenced semantically by disclose v. Apparently reborrowed in the 20th cent.
rare after 17th cent.
Exclusion; an instance of this.In quot. 1668: (probably) an emission, a discharge. N.E.D. (1896) follows Thomas Sheridan's Compl. Dict. Eng. Lang. (1797) in defining this sense as ‘emission’, but notes that the appropriate sense of emission ‘is obscure’.

Origin: Apparently a variation or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: disocclusion n.
Etymology: Apparently a remodelling of disocclusion n., with loss of the second syllable perhaps by association with e.g. inclusion n., exclusion n., conclusion n., etc. Compare earlier (in dentistry) retroclusion n. 2. Compare also earlier disclude v. (although this is attested slightly later in the relevant sense).
Dentistry. Failure of opposing teeth to make contact (when the jaws are closed); an instance of this; (also) treatment aimed at producing this; = disocclusion n. 1. Cf. occlusion n. 3, malocclusion n.
