Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin discifer , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin and scientific Latin discifer, adjective (1704 or earlier; compare discifer (noun) steward (from 7th cent. in British sources); < disci- , combining form of classical Latin discus disc n. + classical Latin -fer : see -ferous comb. form) + -ous suffix.
Botany. Now rare.
Bearing a disc or discs (cf. disc n. 7).
