Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French dischacer.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman dischacer, Anglo-Norman and Middle French deschaucer (Middle French deschausser , French déchausser ) to remove (a person's) shoes or hose (c1160 as deschalcier in Old French), to take off one's shoes or hose (late 12th cent., used reflexively; < des- des- prefix + chaucer to put on (shoes or hose) (c1100; French chausser ; < classical Latin calceāre calceate v.)), with remodelling of the prefix after dis- prefix.
Obsolete. rare.
transitive (reflexive). To take off one's shoes or hose.
