Etymology: < post-classical Latin discriminalis serving to divide or separate (early 5th cent. in Jerome; already in classical Latin as discrīminālia , plural noun, denoting a hair-clasp (attested in an inscription)) < classical Latin discrīmin- , discrīmen division, distinction (see discriminate v.) + -ālis -al suffix1.
1. Palmistry. Designating the line that separates the hand from the arm; = dragon's tail n. 2. Obsolete. rare.
