单词 disparple
释义

disparplev.

Forms: Middle English desparple, desperple, Middle English–1600s disparple (Middle English disparpoil(l, -parble, Middle English dysperpil, disperpil, disparbel, disperble, disperbyl, Middle English–1500s disperple, 1500s dispearple, 1600s dispurple). See also disparkle v.1, deperpeyl v.
Etymology: < Old French desparpelier, -peillier, -pillier, closely akin to Italian sparpagliare , Spanish desparpajar , < Romance des- (dis- prefix) + *parpaliāre, < *parpilio, *parpalio (Italian parpaglione, Provençal parpalho butterfly; compare Catalan papalló), apparently a changed form of Latin papilio, -ōnem. The same verbal root in its variant forms appears in Old French es-parpillier, modern French éparpiller, Catalan es-parpillar, Provençal es-parpalhar: compare modern Provençal esfarfalhá, < farfalla butterfly. In Old French the -ill- belonged originally to the atonic, the -eill- to the tonic forms, but these were subsequently confused.
