Etymology: = Old French diapenté (Godefroy), < Latin diapente , Greek διὰ πέντε , in sense 1 short for ἥ διὰ πέντε χορδῶν συμϕωνία the harmony through five strings or notes; in sense 2 for τὸ διὰ πέντε ϕάρμακον the medicament composed of five (ingredients): see dia- prefix2.
