Etymology: < post-classical Latin difflation-, difflatio (1494 or earlier) < classical Latin difflāt- , past participial stem of difflāre (see difflate v.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French, French †difflation (1554 or earlier).
1. Medicine. The (supposed) dispersal of a substance as a vapour within the body, or expulsion of such a vapour from the body, esp. through the pores; an instance of this. Obsolete.
