Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Allemontites.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Allemontites (J. Fröbel 1837, or earlier) < Allemont , variant of Allemond , the name of a village in the Dauphiné, France (department of Isère), near which the substance naturally occurs + -ites -ite suffix1. Compare German Allemontit (1840 or earlier).
Mineralogy.
A greyish-white mineral containing antimony and arsenic, later regarded as identical with or containing stibarsen.
