Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin alleluiaticus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin alleluiaticus (4th or 5th cent. in Augustine) < alleluia alleluia int. + -aticus -atic suffix. With β. forms compare earlier hallalujous adj.In alleluiatic victory n. after post-classical Latin victoria alleluiatica (1639); compare:1639 J. Ussher Britannicarum Ecclesiarum xi. 332 Celebratissimam victoriam Alleluiaticam. So called with reference to an account in Constantius of Lyon's Vita Germani (ch. 18), according to which the Britons, newly baptized and led by Germanus of Auxerre, terrified their enemy into flight with cries of ‘alleluia’.
