Origin: Apparently a variant or alteration of another lexical item; probably partly modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymon: dialectic n.1
Etymology: Apparently an alteration of dialectic n.1 after nouns in -ics denoting branches of knowledge (see -ic suffix 2), and probably also after classical Latin dialectica, neuter plural. Compare slightly later dialectic adj.In sense 2b after German Dialektik dialectic n.1 (1873 (in the 2nd German edition of Das Kapital, the source translated in quot. 1887) or earlier in this sense; earlier uses by Marx and Engels, from at least 1844, refer to Hegelian dialectics).
With singular and plural agreement.
