单词 | diplont |
释义 | diplontn. Biology. A sexual organism that is diploid at all stages of its life other than the gamete, which is haploid. ΚΠ 1925 E. B. Wilson Cell (ed. 3) vi. 492 From this organism [the haplont] arise the gametes..and by their union is produced the zygote from which arises a diploid, asexual spore-producing diplont (in plants the sporophyte), thus completing the life-cycle. 1943 L. W. Sharp Fund. Cytol. xi. 160 Cladophora glomerata is also reported to be a diplont, but it differs from Codium in having zoöspores. 1951 M. O. P. Iyengar in G. M. Smith Man. Phycol. iii. 59 Protosiphon is another member of the Siphonales which is a haplont and not a diplont like the majority of the Siphonales. 1965 P. Bell & D. Coombe tr. Strasburger's Textbk. Bot. (new ed.) i. i. 37 Meiosis can be deferred right up to the formation of gametes. In this case, rare in plants, all the cells other than the gametes are diploid and the organisms are termed diplonts. Derivatives diˈplontic adj. ΚΠ 1929 Hereditas XIII. 333 Diplontic sterility may be caused by species crosses, special genetic factors and by inbreeding. 1970 Jrnl. Phycol. 6 122 The life cycle of N[octiluca] miliaris appears thus to be of the diplontic type.
