1925 E. B. Wilson Cell (ed. 3) vi. 492 From this organism [the haplont] arise the gametes..and by their union is produced the zygote from which arises a diploid, asexual spore-producing diplont (in plants the sporophyte), thus completing the life-cycle.
1943 L. W. Sharp Fund. Cytol. xi. 160 Cladophora glomerata is also reported to be a diplont, but it differs from Codium in having zoöspores.
