Origin: A borrowing from Bengali. Etymon: Bengali didi.
Etymology: < Bengali didi older sister, female cousin, also used as a respectful form of address for an older woman, perhaps a variant (with vowel assimilation) of dādi paternal grandmother, older sister, feminine corresponding to dādā dada n.2 Compare Hindi dīdī older sister.
South Asian.
An elder sister or female cousin. Also used as a respectful title or form of address for an older woman. Cf. dada n.2
