dingedadj.3

Brit. /dɪn(d)ʒd/, U.S. /dɪndʒd/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: dinge n.1, -ed suffix2; dinge v.1, -ed suffix1.
Etymology: Either (i) < dinge n.1 + -ed suffix2, or (ii) < dinge v.1 + -ed suffix1. Compare later dinged adj.2 2a and ding n.1 2.This word is very difficult to distinguish from dinged adj.2, which is earlier and more common (although it is attested later in the semantically most closely related sense, dinged adj.2 2a). For this reason, any ambiguous examples have been assigned to that entry.
Now rare (chiefly regional).
Marked with one or more depressions, hollows, or indentations; dented, typically as a result of being struck, pressed, or hit; (hence) damaged in this way, battered. Cf. dinge v.1In some contexts it is impossible to be sure whether evidence represents this word or dinged adj.2
